Day Five
We decide to try a little bushwhacking and picked a hike with no marked trail on the map. Turns out there was a trail but we felt like we were "getting away from it all". Actually, it should be noted that we didn't see many people on any of the hikes we took. Just a few groups here and there. On this day we saw only one other person.
We drove down Comb Wash Road to where Fish Creek flows into Comb Wash and took off walking. There were several ruins marked on the topo map and those were our goal.
Mileage for the day: 7 miles.
It is so cool to just be walking along in the middle of nowhere and come across these ruins. No fences keeping you from them, no ranger telling you to stay back. I hope the BLM can continue this policy because it really is a neat experience. Another neat thing is that there are artifacts left in these ruins. Photos here.
This is our campsite in the Comb Wash with Comb Ridge in the background.
Sunset on Cedar Mesa.
